Recap of Our August 25, 2011 Meeting

On Monday, 7-25-11 we had our July DPA meeting, and I am pleased to report that it was quite well attended, particularly for these summer months.  About 10 hungry people showed up at 5 PM at Selmons for the pre-meeting dinner, and there were about 20 at the meeting itself.

I was able to introduce two new members, Mary-Lou Johnson and Morris Emigh, both accomplished photographers.  Mary-Lou joined us for dinner, and while chatting, I discovered that she has a lot of her work printed on large scale canvas.  I hope to encourage her to present some details to us in the future.

Speaking of canvas, Lou Newman brought in some of his spectacular canvas animal prints, and discussed the advent of sharp matte canvas material now available.  I brought in some prints made on Red River Arctic Pearl Metallic paper, the metallic surface gives prints extra "pop".  Next time I'll bring in the Micro 4/3 Panasonic GH2 camera the images were captured with, quite small and light.  Good quality 17 x 22 prints from a sensor just 60% size of the usual "Crop" APS-C size, most welcome for a travel camera.

Chuck Stevenson shared his very high quality 30 minute Pro Show of his UK trip, excellent organization, images, and appropriate sound.  I hope he will share his methods for acquiring and safeguarding travel images, and producing such quality shows.

We ended the evening with 5 member Pro Shows around the theme "COLORFUL'", including my first DPA submission, which was kindly received - whew!  Next month's show theme will be "TRANSPORTATION".  Remember that ANY theme is welcome for shows up to 3 minutes in length of fairly recent images.

There is a free beta version of lightroom. Go AbobeTV.com to download the product. You will have to pay for lightroom when adobe puts it on sale.

Adobe elements version 8. New options enable you to create perfectly lit shots, recompose photos to any size without distorting key subjects, and quickly find your highest-quality shots or shots of specific people.

Adobe is offering a $20.00 rebate. Adobe changed the front format of elements, making it far simplier to take action on images. You can correct problems during the screen new front menu. Full edit capability in screen new. Also version 8 has a pseudo HDR format and does the changes automatically when viewing the same image with different tonal qualities.

Stan mentioned that with the new features added to Adobe Elements 8 that one can use it for just about anything except if you need Vector Graphics.
